The Challenge

Turning Video Stills into Professional Elopement Photos

The client and his wife had eloped the previous week and set up a camera to record video of the ceremony. He wanted to take screenshots from the footage and have them edited to look like professional photographs.

The main problem was the blown-out sky in the later shots as the sun rose. He wanted the sky detail brought back to match the softer look of the earlier frames.

The Solution

Sky Recovery and Color Work

I worked on each still to sharpen the details, clean up the faces, and bring out the colors. For the shots with blown-out skies, I did sky recovery in Photoshop and matched the new sky to the earlier dawn frames.

I graded the color so each still looks like a real photo instead of a video frame, adjusting color, contrast, and subject separation to finish them as portraits.
